The visitor center near Mount Charleston is closed and chain controls are in effect as snow hits the Spring Mountains area Tuesday.

The social media accounts for Mount Charleston said the Visitor Gateway would be closed for the day as of 1 p.m.

Chains or snow tires with four-wheel drive are required on the mountain roads of Kyle Canyon, Deer Creek and Lee Canyon, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

"Today is not the best day for a trip to the Spring Mountains," Mt. Charleston's Twitter account said. "The snow is falling fast and sideways right now with the high winds, and [NDOT] has placed the roads under chain/snow tire requirements."
