Yasmine Jackson, granddaughter of Joe Jackson, stabbed during hate crime in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) - Yasmine Jackson, the granddaughter of Joe Jackson who is the father of Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, was the victim of a hate crime, being stabbed by a woman using a racial slur multiple times at the end of May, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

News of the incident went viral after Yasmine posted it to her Instagram along with pictures of her stab wounds.

According to Yasmine, Angela Bonell, a 22-year-old woman, stabbed her seven times near her home in the southwest valley.

According to Bonell’s arrest report, officers responded on May 30 around 2:15 p.m. to the area after getting a call about a woman being attacked.

On arrival, officers found a male bystander holding a woman, later identified as Bonell, to a gate. Officer Lomaglio quickly responded and took the woman into custody before tending to the victim, later identified as Yasmine Jackson, who was on the ground bleeding.

She was taken to UMC Trauma with multiple cuts to her head and body, according to the arrest report.

Officers made contact with five witnesses as well as Jackson at the hospital. According to interviews, Bonell was Jackson’s upstairs neighbor, and was complaining that Jackson was loud.

Initially, Bonell had thrown a broom at Jackson and a friend, identified as Dymin Dilaurentis, from her balcony. Bonell then jumped down and began chasing Jackson and Dilaurentis who ran away.

Bonell caught up with Jackson and continued to cut and stab her while Dilaurentis ran and called the police.

According to three witnesses and Jackson, Bonell directed the n-word at Jackson multiple time during the attack.

A man passing by in a vehicle saw the attack happening and quickly responded to stop Bonell and pin her against a gate. Another man who lived in the complex also appeared after hearing Jackson scream and took the knife from Bonell. Shortly after this, officer arrived on scene.

Bonell was arrested and is being charged with attempted murder with a deadly weapon with hate crime enhancement.

In her Instagram post, Jackson said in part, “I pray to God that if you have any kind of hatred in your heart towards black people that you heal it. I didn’t deserve this, nobody does.”

Bonell is expected in court on June 16. She's being held on $100,000 bail.
