Downtown Summerlin debuts new Halloween parade of mischief

This October, Downtown Summerlin offers a full calendar of seasonal fun for the entire family, beginning with a new Halloween parade: “Parade of Mischief,” sponsored by Spirit Halloween.

The frightfully fun, family-friendly parade will fill the streets of Downtown Summerlin with mischievous mayhem every Friday and Saturday night in October (Oct. 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26) starting at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and takes place along Park Centre.

Parade of Mischief, with a cast of more than 30 local kids, features dancing zombies, ghosts, witches, wizards, wild creatures, a rockin’ dead skeleton band and more.

“Parade of Mischief is a wonderful new addition to our line-up of family-friendly entertainment at Downtown Summerlin,” said Halee Mason, marketing director, Downtown Summerlin. “The annual holiday parade is one of our most beloved and popular events here, so we are upping the ante by creating yet another seasonal parade to celebrate Halloween. We can’t wait to unveil it to the community on Oct. 4!”

On Thursday, Oct. 31, the annual Treat Street event returns to Downtown Summerlin from 5 to 7 p.m. Families are encouraged to dress in Halloween costumes for trick-or-treating throughout the destination’s common area where participating retailers will distribute candy.

Treat Street at Downtown Summerlin is free and open to the public and also includes Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Spooky Block Party on Park Centre Drive; a movie screening featuring “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” at 5:10 p.m., 5:40 p.m., 6:10 p.m., 6:40 p.m. and 7:10 p.m.

And for four-legged family members, Downtown Summerlin hosts a “Howl-O-Ween” dog costume contest benefitting the Animal Foundation on Oct. 31 during Treat Street festivities. Entry fees include a $20 donation ($10 for each additional dog entry). The contest takes place in Macy’s Promenade. Check-in begins at 4:30 p.m. The contest starts promptly at 5:30 p.m.

The Magical Forest announces 7th annual HallOVeen

The Magical Forest at Opportunity Village, a long-standing holiday attraction, will be trading in its Christmas flair for spookier seasonal finery at HallOVeen. Now in its 7th season, this family-friendly Southern Nevada tradition celebrates the spookier season with all proceeds benefiting programs and services for adults with disabilities.

For 2019, haunted jungle ruins have taken over HallOVeen at the Magical Forest. The spooky beings lurking within will fit right in with the attraction’s regular inhabitants – ghosts, goblins, witches, and creepy crawlies aplenty. There is also a cemetery filled with uniquely carved jack-o-lanterns and an animatronic skeleton to read you a scary story. Interactive trees will keep you company as you make your way through the forest pathway.

There are a few added bonuses to our General Admission tickets this year. Not only do they include access to the park, but they also include the opportunity to explore HallOVeen’s new, mini-Escape Rooms and “The Last Ride.” In each unique Escape Room, you will work against the clock to solve mysteries and find your way out as part of a team. HallOVeen also welcomes the return of “The Last Ride,” a coffin experience in which the participant gets buried alive and onlookers can witness your fear through the coffin cam.

Ticketed attractions include traditional experiences like Cheyenne’s Enchanted Carousel, the Forest Express Passenger Train, the Avalanche Slide, and the Blizzard mini-coaster. We are also introducing some new rides which will be announced soon, but they are sure to please the thrill-seekers amongst our guests. Unlimited ride wristbands and individual ride tickets are available for purchase at the park or, for the best deal, purchase Passports online in advance – special package rates available.

All the more fun in costume, Forest-goers can also enjoy nightly entertainment, trick-or-treat stations, midway carnival games, and festive pumpkin displays, along with gifts, goodies and more at our kiosks and in the Holiday Shoppe. There are also more food and beverage options than ever before – we’re talking food trucks!

The family-friendly festivities commence Friday, October 11 through Sunday, October 13, and resume Friday, October 18 through Thursday, October 31, Halloween night, at the not-for-profit’s 6300 West Oakey Campus, with ample parking in the adjacent CSN lot off Torrey Pines. The HallOVeen gates open nightly at 5:30pm. General admission is $15 and Passport admission is $22. Purchase online and learn more at www.HallOVeen.com. Children 3 and under get in free. Children under 3 do not require ride tickets but must be accompanied by a responsible party with a ride ticket or wristband to enjoy the attractions. Every penny of the proceeds from Opportunity Village’s signature events, including HallOVeen, benefit programs and services for adults with intellectual disabilities in Southern Nevada.

There are still numerous opportunities for businesses and individuals to take part. Host a private party, volunteer, or sponsor a tree! Options are limited so sign up early for the best selection. Special ticketed events at HallOVeen will be added to Opportunity Village’s online calendar as details are finalized including Halloween night weddings, a Fit4Mom workout in the Magical Forest on October 15th and the 4th Annual Pumpkin Paws on October 19th. For more information on these exciting events, please visit www.OVevents.com.

UNSHAKEABLE is a 501c3 nonprofit that partners with organizations providing rescue, shelter, addiction recovery and emotional counseling for at-risk women. The services the women receive at shelters, safe houses and sober houses are a critical first step on their path to restoration and provide emotional healing from the trauma experienced from human trafficking, addiction, abuse or homelessness. The first annual Freak The Beat festival Halloween party arrives at the Bunkhouse Grounds at Bunkhouse Saloon in Downtown Las Vegas on Saturday, October 26. The Day of the Dead-themed event will run from 4pm to 1am and recreate the traditional Vegas Halloween party.

Created and produced by popular event company We The Beat – the minds behind activations at Life is Beautiful, as well as more than 100 hugely popular events – Freak The Beat will feature musical performances by Mr. Carmack, hip-hop duo THEY., Andre Power of Soulection, and other favorite Vegas artists like Mike Xavier and 143 Tommy, showcasing the next trends in music and the city’s local up-and-coming artists.

The main stage will be the heart of the party, while the Casamigos’ speakeasy and Zappos’ silent disco will add additional flavor to the event for everyone to enjoy. Halloween costumes are highly encouraged, and attendees can enter the costume contest for a chance to win a prize of $3,000 for best dressed! NLVPD: 19th Annual Safe Halloween Event

On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, the North Las Vegas Police Department is hosting its 19th annual Safe Halloween event. Families are invited to celebrate from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Home Depot parking lot, located at 1275 West Craig Road. There will be live entertainment, vendor booths and free trick-or-treating for children 12 and under. This event is free to the public.

Each year, the Department partners with local businesses and community leaders to offer a safe place for families to celebrate Halloween. Last year, over 10,000 children and adults attended the Safe Halloween event.

If parents choose to take their children on a traditional trick-or-treat, the Department suggests the following tips to ensure a safe, fun-filled night:

Children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Adults should hold children by the hand.

NEVER enter a stranger's home.

Bright colored costumes should be worn.

Include reflective gear somewhere on the costume or choose accessories that light up (ie: shoes, glow sticks, etc.)

Take a flashlight and avoid dark alleys, walkways or homes with no lights.

Encourage children to cross the street at a corner or crosswalk and watch for cars!

Check the candy before children eat it.

Take a charged cell phone. In case of an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

The North Las Vegas Police Department wishes everyone a Happy "Safe" Halloween.
