SAN ANTONIO - Police suspect that protesters tried to burn down the parole office early Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to the scene of an active fire at the 2900 block of NE Loop 410 at around 2:00 a.m. When they arrived, they found the front lobby of the parole office was on fire. They worked quickly and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the building. The fire was extinguished in about five minutes.

Officials with the fire department said it looked like someone or multiple people and broke in through the front door, then used some kind of accelerant to light the front lobby on fire. Police officers searched the area, but didn't find any suspects.

The fire is estimated to have caused about $20,000 in damage to the facility.

This is an ongoing investigation.
