Tornado on the ground near Blue Mound

The Illinois Department of Transportation confirmed a tornado is on the ground near Blue Mound, Ill. around 4:55 p.m.

A tornado warning is in effect for Blue Mound, Ill. and Stonington, Ill. until 5 PM.

The National Weather Service reports the tornado was located over Blue Mound, 13 miles northeast of Taylorville, moving east at 15 miles-per-hour.

NWS officials say the tornadic thunderstorm will remain over mainly rural areas of northeastern Christian and southwestern Macon Counties.
