DURHAM, N.C. — A 42-year-old man from Dalton, Georgia has been identified as the victim in a deadly trench collapse at a construction project in Brier Creek in North Carolina. The incident happened on Wednesday.
Crews had been working on a gas station project for Harris Teeter, an American supermarket chain based in Matthews, North Carolina.
"Harris Teeter is deeply saddened by this incident and extends its condolences to the families and workers who were affected," a spokesperson for the supermarket chain told ABC11
Our affiliate station, ABC11, was at the scene.
Frank "Trey" Warren Thompson III, of Dalton, Georgia, died in the incident. ABC11 reports three other workers survived.
Love Funeral Home in Dalton says Thompson is survived by a wife and son.
The deadly incident is being investigated.
