Every day, Robert Ruiz at Choice Matters works with parents that may want a different education option for their student.

National School Choice Week provides an opportunity for parents to learn about those alternative education experiences.

"More and more low-income families and more and more underserved communities are getting access to choice and we like to make sure there is equity in choice," Ruiz said.

Gov. Stitt has also declared it School Choice Week in Oklahoma.

Ruiz said learning of the different types of schools can be a positive for students around our state.

"These are, like I said, schools that are creating different narratives around what's possible for students so all these things are needed," Ruiz said.

Other choices for schools include charter, private, online or home school.

The president of National School Choice Week, Andrew Campanella, said one of these could be the best choice for some students.

"Our goal is to raise awareness to all of the different schools and education environments that parents have or want to be able to have for their kids' education," Campanella said.

Oklahoma will have a Parent Power Summit on Thursday in Oklahoma City to educate parents.

Ruiz said there will be a lot of information to help you make a decision.

"Are they excited about STEM activities, are they excited about arts, do they want a faith-based education?" Ruiz said. "Each according to what the family needs and what the student needs. They'll be able to have access to all of that."

The event will take place from 4-8 p.m. at St. Luke's Christian Life Center.
