A man on a bicycle has died after being hit by a truck in west Phoenix on Wednesday morning, police said.

The man was riding on Thomas Road near 46th Avenue when the truck hit him at about 6:45 a.m., according to a Phoenix police statement.

The bicyclist was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators but was later arrested on an unrelated outstanding warrant, Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said. Impairment does not appear to have been a factor.

Thomas Road was closed between 46th and 48th avenues for the investigation and was expected to remain that way for several hours.
