Two stray female puppies were rescued Monday after they managed to get stuck between block walls.

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control received a call from someone who noticed a pair of stray puppies wandering around the area of 31st Lane and Ocotillo Road in Phoenix for several days.

The neighbors said the puppies could not be "caught,'' the county agency said.

Animal Control Officer Lacy McKechnie responded to a call Monday about the pair becoming stuck and found the pair wedged in a narrow opening between two block walls after searching for several minutes.

Despite the challenging circumstance, McKenchnie was able to free the puppies and bring them into the shelter, according to Animal Care and Control.

The puppies are described as Australian Cattle Dogs, one 10 months, the other 1 year old, the agency said.

The county's Animal Care and Control Department will put the two puppies up for adoption Friday at its shelter near 27th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.
