2 Phoenix police officers injured in traffic accident
Two Phoenix police officers and another person were injured in a serious traffic accident Thursday afternoon.
One of the officers suffered a leg injury that is not considered life-threatening, said Phoenix police Sgt. Jonathan Howard.
The other officer was less seriously hurt and taken to a hospital as a precaution. A 39-year-old woman also was taken to a hospital minor injuries.
The accident occurred near 27th Avenue and Camelback Road, before 4:30 p.m.
The two officers were traveling in a marked police car when it collided with a vehicle driven by the woman, Howard said.
The accident still was under investigation Thursday evening, he said.
Howard advised motorists to avoid the area while traffic restrictions are in place during the investigation.
The Arizona Department said the accident investigation forced a closure of the exit ramps in both directions on Interstate 17 at Camelback Road.
