A 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of threatening to shoot up his high school in Gilbert, police said Monday.

Officials conducted several interviews with students at Highland High School, near Guadalupe and Recker roads, on Friday about a comment the teen was suspected of making to another student, Gilbert police spokesman Sgt. Darrell Krueger said.

The investigation found that the teenager was frustrated about his grade and stated that he was "going to shoot up the school," Krueger said.

The boy was arrested for the comment and booked into a juvenile detention facility, Krueger said.

"Our department takes school threats very seriously and we will continue conducting thorough investigations and take appropriate enforcement efforts to maintain student safety," Krueger said.

Calls to Gilbert Public Schools officials for comment were not immediately returned. Police did not specify what charges the teen may face.
