Police say an unlicensed teenage driver hit and killed a pedestrian Sunday night while driving down a residential street in Phoenix.

A 17-year-old boy was headed east on Atlanta Avenue near Seventh Avenue when he hit and killed 52-year-old Samuel Flores, who was crossing the street at about 8 p.m., Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Vince Lewis said.

Phoenix Fire Department pronounced the man dead at the scene, officials said. The driver stayed at the scene following the crash and charges are under review.

Lewis said the driver did not appear to be impaired. Speed may have been a factor in the crash.
