Adventure Bicycle Co.
Just a short ride away from a greenway trail, Adventure Bicycle Co. opened June 8 at 3250 E. Battlefield Road in the Fox Grape Plaza shopping center. Co-owned by Jason Johannpeter, Colin Brixey and Jason Allen, the new venture is in the former home of Horrmann Meat Co. LLC, which closed its Fox Grape store in October 2018. The shop offers bicycles, parts, wheels, apparel, accessories and bicycle repair services. Johannpeter said the shop is the exclusive southwest Missouri dealer for California-based Specialized Bicycle Components Inc. and sells bike racks from Springfield-based Kuat Racks. He said the owners have worked in various bike shops over the past decade and started talking about opening their own store in late March. Lease terms were not disclosed, but Johannpeter said the trio invested roughly $30,000 to open. He said Fox Grape Plaza was attractive because of its proximity to trails and farm roads for cyclists to use.

Able Coffee & Provisions LLC
The newest coffee shop in the Queen City is in operation with the June 15 opening of Able Coffee & Provisions LLC. In the Fremont Center at 3049 S. Fremont Ave., the 1,600-square-foot shop is co-owned by Rance Loftsgard and Chris Rozier. Loftsgard said he began interior renovations in February and about $30,000 was invested to bring the concept to market. Able Coffee serves traditional coffee and espresso drinks, with Elixr Coffee, as well as croissants, sandwiches, soups and salads. Loftsgard has experience in apparel, sales consulting and the nonprofit and restaurant industries, but Able Coffee marks the first brick-and-mortar store he’s launched as an owner. Paying homage to his time in Indonesia, he said the country’s traditional coffee drink sweetened with condensed milk, called “kopi sanger,” has a spot on the menu. The shop, in the former home of the defunct Free Solo Coffee Co., is on a three-year lease for $2,500 per month with Tillman Redevelopment. There are five employees.
