NONGSTOIN: The much awaited Rs 133-crore Nongstoin Urban Water Supply Scheme (NUWSS) will now be funded under the North East Infrastructure Development Scheme (NEIDS) for fast tracking work.
PHE Minister Samlin Malngiang, during his visit to the project site on Friday, assured residents that most of the villages in Nongstoin will soon receive water under the scheme, which is being implemented by M/s Tantia Constructions Ltd, Kolkata.
Malngiang said at present the state is funding the project but the government has financial constraint.
So the scheme will be included in the central fund under NEIDS so that 75 per cent of the work can be completed and water can be supplied to the crisis-hit villages in Nongstoin.
Malngiang visited the intake well located at Kynroh, which is the main source of the water project, and later the treatment plant site at Nongjyllieh.
Speaking to the media here, Malngiang said Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat had urged him to approve additional fund and speed up the project as erratic funding was hindering work. The PHE Minister also praised the work done by the companies and supervised by PHE officials.
He added that Rs 11 crore was sanctioned for the implementation of Marskuin Combine Water Supply Scheme at Marskuin and 15 adjoining villages.
Malgniang was accompanied by Byrsat, Chief Engineer of PHE S K Blah, Deputy Commissioner in-charge KL Nongbri, Executive Engineer of PHE D Shabong and other government officials.
