NONGSTOIN: Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat along with the PWD (Roads) officials on Thursday inspected several roads in Nongstoin which need urgent improvement.
The team of engineers from PWD led by the Superintending Engineer PWD West Khasi Hills M. Dhar, along with the village headman and others started the inspection work from Mawkhlam-Nongpyndeng village where the scheme is now under process.
Later, the team inspected Upper New Nongstoin Road, Nongstoin, Mawkawah, Tiehsaw, Mawrusyiar and Pyndengrei road. The MLA informed that the purpose of the inspection is to assess the status of roads under Nongstoin town which was left behind for more than a decade and now are on emergency need for improvement and repairing.
He added that during the last visit to Nongstoin, chief minister Conrad Sangma had observed that road connectivity in Nongstoin is dilapidated.
“I met deputy chief Minister Prestone Tynsong who is also in charge of PWD department, the minister had advised me that the scheme should be brought in one package that is for improvement of Nongstoin Town road” Byrsat said.
‘I will send the proposal to the government and see that it approves it at the earliest for the betterment of the people’ the MLA added.
The MLA also said the central government had sanctioned 1000 km PMGSY road in the state but the scheme for only 500 km has been sent for approval till date.
Proposal for 10 PMGSY roads has been sent for villages beyond Nongstoin town and the other too will be prepared, said Byrsat. The MLA hoped that with the cooperation of the PWD officials and the villagers, road connectivity can be improved.
