144 CrPC to check coal movement in Ri Bhoi

Nongpoh: The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi, Nongpoh has prohibited plying of coal-laden trucks on Nongpoh-Umden road via Byrnihat, Umsning-Jagi road, Umrit-Narang road, Umling-Narang road and Mairang-Ranibari road in the district under Section 144 CrPC. All construction and operation of makeshift stalls along National Highway 6 for illicit stockpiling as well as sale of coal, parking of commercial vehicles/coal-laden trucks on the premises of petrol pumps and service centres and parking of more than two heavy commercial vehicles/coal-laden trucks in one place have also been prohibited. Unauthorised persons along with private vehicles have been prohibited from stationing/loitering in and around the Umling-Narang (Exit) integrated check gate and diversion of coal trucks away from NH-6 without mandatory weightment shall also be deemed illegal. The order comes into immediate effect and any violation shall be prosecuted under the law, a statement said.

Role of fire and emergency service in rescue mission

SHILLONG: The SP Fire and Emergency Services has clarified on the drowning cases on May 9 and May 20 at Diengiong, Mawdiangdiang in East Khasi Hills and at Jalaphet, East Jaintia Hills respectively. The SP said it was only on arrival of the Search & Rescue team of Meghalaya Fire and Emergency services, Shillong with their available equipment, the team could successfully take out the trapped victims. The SP said the NDRF and SDRF had initiated the rescue operation. However, owing to unspecified reasons they were unable to accomplish the mission.

Pynngop to be screened again

SHILLONG: The Khasi film Pynngop will be screened again from May 24 till June 4 at Bijou Cinema Hall here. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, producer of the film, Emdor Suchiang said the hall owner has called the film makers to screen the movie again. Suchiang pointed out that the film makers did not make much profit from the movie which was screened for 14 days. The cost of making the movie was Rs 10 lakh.

ANTF nabs peddlers, seizes drugs
SHILLONG: The revamped Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) team in their renewed efforts to control and check the drug menace caught two drug peddlers carrying 6,745 suspected World is Yours tablets on Monday. Interrogation is on to unearth the complete network of the gang. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) team of East Khasi Hills can be contacted 24 x 7 on  6009367750 and  9485178401 for sharing information. The identity of informants will be protected and suitable rewards will be given based on merit as per rules, the district SP said. Meanwhile, the Superintendents of Police of North Garo Hills and East Jaintia Hills have said that respective ANTF in the regions will be responsible for matters relating to the manufacturing, possession, sale, purchase, transportation, inter-state movement of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and controlled substances.

Teachers’ body to meet CM

SHILLONG: The Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) and Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) have welcomed the statement of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma regarding the follow up action on the delay in the payment of salaries. In a statement issued here, president of KJDSTA, Babu Kular Khongjirem said the association is willing to meet Conrad and discuss the long pending issues of deficit teachers. The deficit teachers have been struggling with the non-release of salary from March to May this year.
