Union Min asks states to conduct Census 2021 by states

SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai has laid emphasis on the need of conducting Census 2021 and the role of the states in doing the same.
Rai was speaking National Conference of the State/UT Chief Secretaries and Administrators, which was held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi on Friday.
The Conference, which was inaugurated by Rai, was then followed by a review meeting of the Directorates of Census Operations on the next day.
The minister also said that the data collected in the Census helps in framing policies for the welfare of the people of the country.
Rai also inaugurated the official mascot for Census 2021 during the conference.
Additional Resident Commissioner, Meghalaya House, New Delhi, Sanme R Marak and Joint Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya (GAD-B) HDB Sangma, represented the state government, along with senior officers of the Directorate of Census Operations, Meghalaya.
Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, delivering the keynote address, remarked on the vastness of this exercise and involvement of the state functionaries.
Registrar General & Census Commissioner of India Vivek Joshi, on the other hand, made a brief presentation on the Strategy for Census 2021 during the conference.
Presentations were also made by the respective officers in-charge from the ORGI on the appointment of the Census functionaries, NPR, Printing and Logistics facilities, use of mobile application in data collection, and Census Management web portal during the conference.
