50 pc of private, public vehicles to ply within SWKH
Mawkyrwat: South West Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo on Tuesday issued an order allowing the plying of 50 per cent of both private vehicles (non-transport vehicles) and public vehicles within the district with immediate effect until further orders. According to the order, Laloo said that the private vehicles with the registration number ending in even numbers (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8) will be allowed to ply within the district on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays while vehicles with registration number ending with odd number (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9) will be allowed to ply on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. However, on Sundays, plying of both public and private vehicles will not be allowed except for those with valid passes and for emergency purposes only.

Police fine annoys villagers
SHILLONG: Concerns have been raised by the residents of Laitlyngkot as police had charged a fine of Rs 2,000 each from the villagers for taking out their vehicles on Sunday. The residents said that while some of them came out for a funeral, others came from the market. Some villagers had also come from the nearby PHC. Sources said the police should have been considerate instead of imposing fine on the villagers. “The police should have educated the villagers if there was anything wrong instead of resorting to fine,” a resident said.

Sunn welcomes market
SHILLONG: Mawphlang legislator SK Sunn has appreciated the move of the state government to open a market at Umdiengpun Football ground under the jurisdiction of Sadew Village Dorbar. The government, after having taken into consideration the difficulties faced by the farmers, mostly of Mawphlang and Sohiong constituency, has decided to temporarily open the market. “I welcome the decision taken by the government and looking forward to see that the market starts immediately as announced,” Sunn said.
