GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat governor
OP Kohli and chief minister
Vijay Rupani felicitated 41 ‘Best Teachers’ with state honours on Teacher’s Day at a function here on Tuesday. Former President Dr
Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s birth anniversary (September 5) is celebrated as Teacher’s Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Kohli said that teaching is nobler than many other professions.
“Teachers are different from others in the way they bring out the best in students brimming with the energy of youth,” the governor said.
“On the other hand, most government employees remain engrossed in listless files and papers.”
He further said that teachers play a vital role in human resources development by contributing to the advancement of individuals, society and nation. “Governments frame education policies but it is the teachers’ responsibility to implement them,” Kohli said.
He attributed to teachers the success of government campaigns like ‘Shala Praveshotsav’ for 100% enrolment in schools; and ‘Gunotsav’ for qualitative improvement in teaching.
The governor also paid tributes to Dr Radhakrishnan in his speech.
The chief minister said the quality of teaching in government schools was on par with the best private schools. “There is a need to change the mindset that government schools are meant for the children of only poor families and the labour class,” the chief minister said. tnn
