AHMEDABAD: A 23-year-old woman set herself and her two children — aged five and two-and-a-half — on fire, at her residence near Rabari Colony on Tuesday afternoon. While the woman died on the spot, the children were declared dead at Civil Hospital. Investigators suspect marital discord as the probable cause for the extreme step.
Amraiwadi police said Mahanandgiri Goswami, 25, lives at a chawl near Municipal School in Rabari Colony.
Goswami had shifted to this address twenty days ago, with his wife Sushila, 23, and their children Nandini, 5, and two-and-a-half-year-old Kapil. Goswami was a manual labourer.
“Sushila had locked herself up with the kids at about 12.15pm and set herself and them ablaze. It is suspected that the couple had an argument before Goswami left for work on Tuesday,” said Harshad Patel, a social worker from Amraiwadi.
