Youth crashes into boulder on unfinished city road, dies
The biker while speeding on the road applies sudden brake after realising it is incomplete. But he crashes into a boulder and is thrown off.
CHENNAI: A 21-year-old speeding biker died after he hit a boulder on an unfinished road near Perungudi MRTS on Wednesday night.
V Avish, of Tirupuram near Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, who came on Wednesday, got his high-end bike transported by train. He had come to join the Madras Motor Sports Club, police said.
After taking the bike from Chennai Central at 10 pm, Avish was on his way to visit his friend in Velachery.
He took a road close to the railway tracks near Perungudi MRTS station. “He was not aware that the road was incomplete and was speeding on the stretch,” said an investigating officer.
To avoid a boulder, Avish applied sudden brake and lost control. While he was flung afar the vehicle landed into a pond after he hit the boulder, police said. A security guard on duty at a vacant plot nearby heard the crash and came to his rescue.
He called an ambulance and took Avish to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Guindy traffic investigation police registered a case and informed his parents.
Sources said the roadwork connecting both sides Perundudi and Velachery was stopped a couple of months ago for building a bridge. Since Avish was new to the place, he thought he could go to Velachery if he took the route.
It is not just Avish but several commuters take the stretch for more than 1 km before return as the road remains incomplete. “A barricade has to be installed near the beginning of the road, to inform motorists taking the route,” said Shanthakumar, a resident of Velachery.
