Congress calls it failure of Swachh Mission
Ghazipur garbage landfill collapsed in east Delhi on Friday afternoon.
NEW DELHI: Congress blamed both BJP and AAP for the Ghazipur landfill collapse on Friday. The party said that the accident was avoidable if the concerned authorities had taken measures for effective waste management in the city.
Slamming BJP, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken said, the incident was an example of failure of PM Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission. “In the last financial year, the civic agencies had failed to utilise the funds under Swachh Bharat Mission.
It is a failure of the mission,” said Maken.
He also lashed out at the AAP government stating that both the agencies — Delhi energy development agency and department of flood control — under the government had failed miserably in their respective duties.
Meanwhile, BJP, which is ruling the three corporations, sought a report from east Delhi mayor Neema Bhagat and asked the corporation to take immediate steps to develop alternate landfill site. “I have sought a report from the mayor and asked the civic body to ensure proper relief for those injured,” said Manoj Tiwari, Delhi BJP chief.
Vijender Gupta, leader of the opposition in the Delhi assembly, said, “All concerned agencies will have to find out permanent solution to the problem of sanitary landfill sites in Delhi to avert such tragedies in the future.”
