NEW DELHI: A 34-year-old man, who had once been cheated of Rs 8 lakh, decided to con people by starting a well-organised job racket in Shahdara that even involved conducting exams and giving training.
The fraud finally came to an end with the arrest of four men who used to pose as CBI officials and promised government jobs to people. The gang had been operating since 2015 and has cheated over 50 people of crores.
The prime accused, Rawender Singh (30), would introduce himself as a CBI officer and usually demanded Rs 3.5 lakh for a job.
He was assisted by his brother Ankit and his friends Ajit Singh and Gyanendra Kumar, all of whom are graduates from reputed universities, said DCP (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad.
Police received a complaint by Asif Ali, a resident of Ghaziabad, saying that he had given over Rs 3.5 lakh to Singh (30) for a job. Ali was called to Lucknow where he handed over the cash to Singh and his cousin Ankit (29). Later, he was asked to fill up a form and called to Kanpur. He was made to sign in a register and told that it was for training.
Ali was later called to Unnao where he was informed that he has been appointed in Food Corporation of India (FCI). He was asked to join at Fatehabad, Haryana in the first week of August.
When he asked Singh for an appointment letter, he was asked to wait. This made him suspicious. When Ali tried to contact FCI authorities, he found that he had been duped.
Ankit, who had introduced himself as a CBI sub-inspector, was nabbed on August 27. Cops seized four forged railways appointment letters from him. He had procured them from Ajit Pratap Singh (31), who was nabbed near PVR Saket. Singh and Gyanendra Kumar (25) were arrested on August 30.
