Rain may be back from Monday in Delhi
NEW DELHI: Light drizzle was recorded in parts of the capital on Friday morning with mercury staying three degrees below normal for the season. Met officials forecast a break from the rains over the weekend, with a fresh spell of pre-monsoon showers likely to hit the capital on Monday night, continuing for the next few days.
Delhi’s base weather observatory in Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius on Friday, while the minimum was recorded at 26.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.
Safdarjung received 2.6mm of rainfall till 8.30am on Friday over a 24-hour period while light rains were also recorded at Delhi University and Lodhi Road, which received 4mm and 3.3mm of rainfall respectively.
Met officials say observatories at Palam, Ridge, Ayanagar and Pitampura did not receive any rain on Friday, while humidity hovered between 50% to 87% across the capital. According to officials from the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre in Delhi, another spell of pre-monsoon thundershowers is likely to hit the capital on Monday night with strong winds.
“There will be no rainfall over the weekend, however a few spells of rain and thundershowers are likely to commence over Delhi NCR from Monday night for 3-4 days which will be accompanied by squally winds exceeding speeds of 50 km/hr. Temperatures are likely to stay below normal for the period,” said an RWFC official.
