SI suspended for assaulting mentally challenged woman at private hospital in Kanpur
KANPUR: Taking a serious note of the video that went viral on social networking sites wherein a police official of an SI (sub-inspector) rank was found to be assaulting a mentally disabled woman at a private Hospital in Billhaur area of the district on Wednesday, the DIG/SSP Kanpur suspended him on Friday.
Police sources informed that the DIG/SSP herself reprimanded the SI after summoning him to her office on Thursday.
The mentally challenged woman after gaining entry into the hospital was shouting at the staff.
The hospital administration thereafter alerted local police out-post and the SI Paccha Lal deployed there intervened.
The SI allegedly misbehaved with her, held the woman by her hair and dragged her out before slapping her several times, from the hospital which led to a major showdown between the victim and the SI. Someone from the crowd had shot a video and made it viral by uploading it on social networking sites.
The district police thereafter was left red-faced after the video clip went viral on Thursday purportedly showing an SI dragging and repeatedly slapping the woman at the Neerja hospital in Billhaur, forcing his seniors to initiate stringent action against him into the incident.
DIG/SSP Sonia Singh after coming across the video that went viral on social networking sites on Friday suspended SI Paccha Lal deployed at a police out-post in Billhaur police area.
"Assaulting the woman was misconduct on part of the SI. If she was trying to create chaos, she should have been stopped in a proper way," said DIG Sonia Singh.
