LUCKNOW: Commuters once again faced inconvenience as traffic diversions for launch of Lucknow Metro along with Ganesh idols immersion and protest on Vidhan Sabha Marg led to traffic snarls on various routes in the city on Tuesday.
As traffic remained diverted between Transportnagar and Husainganj for Metro launch, people travelling towards Alambagh faced lot of inconvenience.
“I had to reach my office at 11am, but due to diversions I got late by an hour.
The diversions had a ripple effect on the connecting routes which saw heavy congestion,“ said Babul Rastogi, a commuter.
Vehicles coming from Husainganj and Burlington crossing were diverted towards Lal kuan and Basmandi crossings to reach Charbagh station. Also, Charbagh trisection from Pan Dariba was barricaded for the movement of VIPs towards Transportnagar Metro station. Lal Kuan stretch remained clogged from 11am to 1pm.
Similarly, vehicles heading from Kanpur Road towards Transportnagar, Krishnanagar and Alambagh were diver ted towards Awadh Vihar Yojana and Aashiana Road to reach Hazratganj via Cantt.
Meanwhile, protest by Samajwadi Party workers on Vidhan Sabha Marg disrupted traffic movement for over three hours on the route.
Ganesh Visarjan processions also led to snarls at Mankameshwar bridge, University Road, Nishatganj Bridge, Jhulelal Vatika Road and Shaheed Smarak Road in the afternoon.
“I could only cover a distance of 250 metres within an hour owing to jam near Sikanderbagh crossing,“ said Rishab Jaini, a student.
