Nervous? Not at all, say first Metro’s confident loco pilots

It wasn’t nervousness but excitement of meeting and shaking hands with the top leaders of the country that was riding high in the four young pilots who drove the first Lucknow Metro train on Tuesday.
Pooja Kumar, Priyanka Chaurasia, Aman Srivastava and Nikhil Kumar Uttam comprised the first set of Metro operators.
They were given five days of rigorous training before the event. Aman Srivastava, who is from Badaun, said, “We were told 15 days earlier that we have to operate the Metro during the launch and it will carry the Union home minister and UP CM.
We were ecstatic. We wanted to meet them personally and shake hands with them and had trained hard for this moment. But due to time compulsions, they couldn’t meet us.” The women were more thrilled to get the opportunity. Priyanka said she wasn’t nervous at all as she, along with others, had got extensive training over the past year.

“We were trained by the best people in the country. We even got hands-on training in Delhi. We have to eventually carry passengers of Lucknow so we are mentally prepared for the huge responsibility,” she said. If getting selected for the the Metro operator’s job wasn’t enough, Pooja is now aspiring to drive Metros in other cities too.
“Metro projects are coming up in other cities too...such as Varanasi and Kanpur and even in my hometown Agra. I want to drive the Metro there too. Nikhil of Fatehpur said it was his long-cherished dream to drive Metro and that he had realised a dream by doing so.
