Ex-minister's aide fires at railway staff at crowded Ranchi station, held

The bodyguard of a former state minister fired at an on-duty officer of the South Eastern Railways on the crowded Ranchi railway station premise after an argument over littering on Wednesday evening.

RANCHI: The bodyguard of a former state minister fired at an on-duty officer of the South Eastern Railways on the crowded Ranchi railway station premise after an argument over littering on Wednesday evening.
Vijay Kumar Rajak, the bodyguard of BJP leader and former state cabinet minister Baidyanath Ram, fired at station’s health inspector from his semi-automatic rifle Rakesh Kumar. Kumar escaped unhurt.
Rajak was taken to custody by the government railway police (GRP). Ram was a MLA from Latehar district.
According to eyewitness accounts, Kumar had asked Rajak not to litter on the station premise and use the dustbin. The two had heated verbal exchange after which Rajak drew his semi-automatic rifle and fired at Kumar.
Neeraj Kumar, senior divisional commercial manager of Ranchi division said, “The police constable has been handed over to the GRP. He was to travell with the former minister to New Delhi in the Rajdhani express in the evening. A FIR will be lodged.”
