After an overnight shooting in the area of Providence nightclub, a separate shooting hours later leads to one man’s death.

Police cleared the area about three hours after a man was found shot in an SUV near Eddy and Porter Streets. Crews first responded around 7:30 Monday morning after a 911 call reported shots fired.

On Monday afternoon the victim was identified as 34-year-old Adrian Shepard of Providence.

Major David Lapatin says officers found a man sitting in an SUV suffering from a gunshot wound.

“He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” said Maj. David Lapatin with the Providence Police Department.

Police say the victim was a 34-year-old man with ties to the Providence area. No one else believed to be involved was found in or around the black SUV with New York plates. The deadly shooting happened right across the street from a church.

“There’s a sense of, I think, pain that someone has died in the neighborhood,” said Erin Corry with the Restoration Worship Church.

“As a person of faith obviously, and as a father, and as a brother, it always hurts me. Young people being slaughtered like this is always hurtful especially at the hands of gun violence,” said Pastor Erny.

Police aren’t saying anything about a suspect or suspects at this point but indicated that no arrests have been made.

Police do not believe this deadly shooting is connected with that other shooting that happened overnight.
