State police responded to 24 crashes due to weather overnight

HOPKINTON, R.I. (WJAR) — Rhode Island State police said 24 crashes have been reported between 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.

Police said one of the crashes involved a car hydroplaning and flipping over onto its roof in Hopkinton Saturday morning.

Officers responded to 95 north between exits 2 and 3 around 7:45 a.m. for a report of a rollover.

Authorities said the driver did not sustain any injuries.

Lieutenant Kenneth Jones said speed may have played a factor, but the main cause was ponding in the roadway due to the rain.
