Victim's grandson charged in Lincoln home invasion

WARWICK, R.I. (WJAR) — Lincoln police said Tuesday that a suspect connected to a home invasion is the grandson of the 81-year-old victim.

Jordan Palardy, 22, of Pawtucket, was arraigned in Kent Count District Court on charges of first-degree robbery, burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary. He was ordered held without bail.

Authorities said Palardy and another man entered his grandfather’s Columbia Avenue home Sunday night to rob him.

"He noticed two males all dressed in black. One of the males pushed him into the counter, he struck his head (and) ended up on the floor. They demanded to know where the money was," said Lincoln Police Chief Brian Sullivan.

Sullivan said the suspects then took money from a cabinet in the kitchen and were about to leave when the victim's 59-year-old daughter, who lives upstairs, came down and confronted them.

"The two males ran out of the apartment, pushing her into a refrigerator then fled the scene," said Sullivan, who added Palardy’s grandfather was treated and released from the hospital.

Police said it wasn't the first time Palardy has stolen from his grandfather. The department had a warrant out for his arrest for allegedly stealing $1,800 from his grandfather November 16, but had not been able to locate him to bring him in.

"We believe he's involved in drug activity, so he was not very easy to locate, moving from place to place," said Sullivan, who told the judge that Palardy told investigators he and his co-conspirators purchased drugs after the home invasion.

Sullivan said the day after the crime, Palardy was involved in an incident at Twin River Casino in Tiverton, where police in that town picked him up, then discovered Lincoln police had a warrant out for his arrest.

Sullivan said investigators are still looking for the person who entered the home with Palardy, as well as a third co-conspirator, who they believe drove a getaway car.
