COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) – Fairfield Road in North Columbia was shut down due to a fire at a metal recycling lot Tuesday, according to the Columbia Fire Department.

The 7700 block of Fairfield Rd. was shut down for some time, but is now back open, according to officials. The department says the fire has been contained, but that eight residents have been moved from their homes out of precaution.

Crews were able to bring the fires down to hot spots Tuesday and the Richland County Fire Marshals are investigating what led to the fire.
