SCDOT to close parts of Gervais Street for emergency repairs beginning Thursday

S.C. Department of Transportation announced the closure of parts of Gervais Street beginning Thursday morning for emergency repairs to the drainage system.

The Westbound lanes on Gervais Street, from Millwood Avenue to Oak Street, in Columbia will be affected. Eastbound Gervais Street will remain open.

SCDOT says their repairs are needed due to the recent heavy rains.

SCDOT says their plan is to have lanes reopened on Tuesday, June 18, barring delays due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Detour signage will be in place using North Millwood, Taylor Street and Harden Street.

According to SCDOT, motorists are advised to plan, expect congestion and consider alternate routes especially during peak traffic times.

SCDOT says please use caution in the work zone reminding motorists of their slogan "Let 'em Work. Let 'em Live."
