An expansion program is in the works that will soon lead to a new farmers' market location in Jacksonville.

The Onslow County Farmers' Market will be expanding to a new, and hopefully more accessible, location. Jacksonville Commons is one of three options currently being considered along with Western Boulevard and the downtown area.

The market currently has two locations, one Saturday market at the main location at 4024 Richlands Hwy. in Jacksonville. There's also a pop-up weekday market, which is the target for expansion and a new location. The goal is to get the market inside the Jacksonville city limits.

"Our criteria is looking at different areas of the community, looking at folks that access the transit lines as well as folks that are in the food desserts," said Marie Bowman, manager of the Onslow County Farmers' Market.

Bowman said a decision will be made very soon but didn't say exactly when.
