=====

An employee was injured when a large capacity hose broke on a bypass pump today. He was working at the City’s Main Wastewater Pumping Station which had lost power this morning.

Power was lost at the plant about 10AM as a result of an apparent failure at a Duke Energy substation. As the generator has not been working reliably, staff switched to a bypass strategy to directly send the wastewater to the Land Treatment Site.

The hose to a bypass pump broke. The impact of the water pressure caused an experienced employee to be slammed against a machine. The forty-nine-year-old suffered a non-life threatening injury to his leg. He was administered emergency first aid and was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune.

He was reported in stable condition and was expected to be released from the hospital.
