The man accused of killing 23-year-old Da’shaun Pearsall appeared in an Onslow County court on Friday.

Tyquan Hayes is charged with murder, felony possession of heroin and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

21-year-old Mieonna Jackson was found with Hayes and is charged with harboring a fugitive.

Hayes is being held in the Onslow County Jail without bond.

Officials say he has chosen to hire his own attorney and will appear in court again on September 19.

The Jacksonville Police Department, with the help of Wilmington police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Safe Streets Task Force and the State Bureau of Investigation, took Hayes into custody overnight at a Wilmington hotel.
