The Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Department is donating their building to a good cause.

The downtown Jacksonville building has been used for several things over the years. Volunteers say the building was used as the Jacksonville town hall, a police station and their volunteer fire department. Now, it will be given to the Boys and Girls Club.

Volunteers of the Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Department say they are more than happy to give this building to the organization, rather than try to sell it.

“They service a lot of boys and girls in that neighborhood, and we had a lot of people who could profit from it, says Mandy Daughtery, Chairman of the Board for the Jacksonville VFD. "We could’ve sold it to a lawyer for a downtown courthouse, we could’ve sold it to someone for real estate and investment, but this way, the members that came before us would really like us to do that and it was just the best fit possible."

Bill Mercer, the Onslow County Advisory Board Chairman, says the building will be used to "to provide mentorship, training, and love" to children during after school hours.
