Texas man to be executed for dragging man to death with truck

JASPER COUNTY, TX (WEAR-TV) — A Texas man is scheduled to be executed after he tied a man to his vehicle and drugged him to death in the streets.

According to the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole, officials voted 7-0 on Monday afternoon not to recommend a 120-day reprieve for John William King.

King was convicted and sentenced to death for the June 1998 dragging death of James Byrd Jr.

Prior reports stated, King, tied Byrd Jr. to the back of a truck and drugged his body for approximately three miles on Huff Creek Road in Jasper County.

King is scheduled for execution on April 24 in Huntsville, Texas.
