The Spring Valley NAACP Young Adult Committee held a peaceful candlelight vigil Thursday evening to honor George Floyd and others who have lost their lives to social injustice.
The march before the vigil was led by George Floyd's cousin, Will Floyd.
The group marched from the Spring Valley Police Department as they made their way to a park on Memorial Drive. The vigil was held at a soccer field in the park.
Floyd says the vigil is about more than the tragic death of his cousin.
"We have to deal with what's going on in this world today," he said. "We're always trying to climb up and while we're trying to climb up, we're getting kicked right back down so it's all reactions so this is why I think it's very important for people to come out to this protest for them to understand."
The Spring Valley NAACP Young Adult Committee says it hopes the vigil will encourage people to act on making a change at the polls.
