The Majority Caucus of the Kentucky House of Representatives has named Representative Steven Rudy of Paducah as temporary floor manager.

In this role, Rudy will open daily proceedings and handle the introduction and reading of bills on the House Floor.

Representative John "Bam" Carney, who was chosen as Floor Leader in 2019, has been hospitalized with a severe case of pancreatitis since a few days before Christmas, so Speaker Pro Tem David Meade had been handling Carney's duties along with his own.

In a statement, Meade said he's now going to focus on his day-to-day constitutional responsibilities, so someone else was needed to handle the floor.

Speaker David Osborne commented on Meade's help, saying, "Now that bills and resolutions are beginning to move through the legislative process, I need him back in that position where he can assist me with day-to-day operations and fully focus on the Caucus’ priority issues.”

A statement from the caucus says members of majority leadership will continue to work together to make decisions regarding bill assignments and other issues. The Speaker and Speaker Pro Tem will continue to serve as primary points of contact in order to allow Rudy to continue serving as Chair of the House Appropriations and Revenue Committee.

On Sunday, Mark Carney commented on Facebook that John's pancreas is continuing to heal and his infection is getting better.
