Election season has rolled around once again in Albany and qualifying opened this week for candidates interested in running for Mayor or City Commission Wards 1, 4, and 6.

FOX 31 Spoke with Elections Supervisor Ginger Nickerson, who let us know a few of the candidates who have already filed to run so far. As of Tuesday morning, there are four mayoral candidates and three commission ward candidates.

To become a candidate for either position, you must meet the required criteria which include:

  • Must be an Albany resident
  • Must reside in the ward you are looking to run for
  • Pay a fee; $750 for the mayoral race or $450 for any of the city commission races

If you are interested in running for either position, you can file to run inside room 220 of the Elections Office inside the Government building on Pine Avenue.

However, you only have until Friday at 4:30 p.m. to file your paperwork.

The Albany Police Department has also allowed free parking downtown due to qualifying week.
