AUGUSTA (WGME) -- A bill would raise the pay for future lawmakers, including the governor.

Maine’s governor is currently the lowest paid in the nation at $70,000 per year, unchanged in more than 30 years.

The bill would raise that pay to $125,000 for any governor after Governor Janet Mills.

The bill would also raise the pay for future lawmakers from $14,862 in the first year of a two-year session up to $20,000.

And from $10,613 dollars the second year of a session up to $15,000.

No vote for the bill has been scheduled yet.
