A Flood Warning remains in effect along many of Maine’s rivers. Rain, mixed with snow melting in the mountains is raising water levels.

There are several rivers across Maine and New Hampshire that are past or close to flood stage.

The Androscoggin River is still above flood stage which is 13 feet. At last check, it was at about 13.4 feet but it is expected to continue to come down below flood stage later in the day on Tuesday.

The Penobscot River is also very high. It approached flood stage Monday but is now coming down.

On Route 178 in Bradley near Orono, water levels are close to the road and the water is also rushing close to several local businesses.

It is not just flooding you should be aware of. This time of year, rivers are cold and flowing rapidly.

First responders say they can turn deadly in a matter of minutes, taking you downstream quickly if you get caught in the currents.

They recommend you not get too close to rivers so if you accidentally trip or slip, you don't end up in the water.

The Flood Warning is set to expire at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
