PORTLAND (WGME) -- A rare great black hawk, that's been in Maine for months, was rescued during this weekend’s snow storm.

Avian Haven says someone found the bird on the ground, unable to stand.

They were able to get the bird to safety, and brought it to the rehabilitation center in Freedom.

Experts say the hawk has frost bitten feet and spent the night in the ICU.

Monday morning, he was alert and standing.

We'll continue to bring you updates on the hawk as we get them.
