Police: Maine mom ‘accidentally’ left toddler in Target parking lot in Mass.

EASTON, MA (WGME) -- Police say a Maine mom “accidentally” left her 17-month-old son in a shopping carriage in the parking lot of a Target in Easton, Massachusetts on Saturday.

Police charged 27-year-old Taylor Perdue from Acton with abandonment/endangerment of a child.

Police say the child was found alone around 1 p.m. at the store on Robert Drive.

The child did not appear to be injured and was evaluated by members of the Easton Fire Department before being taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton for an evaluation, according to police.

"It was also determined through video surveillance that the four individuals left the area in a Toyota SUV bearing Maine registration plates," police said.

About an hour later, police say they received a call from a man, who was with the boy’s mother, saying the toddler had been accidentally left behind.

The child’s mother told police she returned to her vehicle after leaving the store with her three friends, and believed that one of her friends had put her son in his rear-facing car seat.

Police say the mother then traveled to Plymouth in her vehicle, while her friends left in a separate vehicle.

When she got to Plymouth, police say the child's mother realized that her son was not in the car seat.

Police and the Department of Children and Families are investigating.
