Maryland and Pennsylvania state police are actively searching for a man they say was involved in two armed bank robberies in Maryland.

Maryland State Police identified the suspect as 57-year-old Charles Gibson Jr., of Pennsylvania, and have issued a warrant for his arrest.

According to police, Gibson robbed two banks Thursday morning in Garrett County. Police said Gibson targeted First United Bank on First Avenue in Friendsville and about an hour later robbed M&T Bank on Main Street in Grantsville.

Witnesses told Maryland troopers Gibson entered the banks and presented employees with a note that indicated he had a gun, according to a news release. Police said no weapon was seen, and no one was injured.

Authorities issued an alert to surrounding agencies to be on the lookout for Gibson.

According to Pennsylvania State Police in Somerset County, troopers noticed a vehicle matching the description and tried to conduct a traffic stop. Police said Gibson kept driving and eventually bailed out of the car, leading police on foot pursuit and ground search in Somerset Township.

PSP searched for Gibson in the areas of Barclay Road, Russett Alley and Lake Road. Authorities said Gibson has not yet been found, and they will continue searching for him.

Police said he was last seen wearing a dark-colored jacket over a hooded sweatshirt, a dark hat and dark framed glasses.

Anyone with information on Gibson's whereabouts is urged to contact the MSP McHenry Barrack at 301-387-1101. You can remain anonymous.
