PENNSYLVANIA. (WJAC) — Reports of several bomb threats surfaced across Pennsylvania Thursday afternoon. State authorities believe the threats, sent by email, are a part of a nationwide hoax.
According to multiple news outlets, threats were made to media agencies, banks, schools and other places across the United States.
In Cambria County, the Tribune Democrat reported Johnstown police searching the surrounding area after the newspaper received a bomb threat.
Penn State officials at University Park warned students of threats made to buildings but did not specify exact locations.
It was later determined by the school and local law enforcement to be a hoax but will maintain police presence in the area while the investigation continues. Campus officials said classes will continue as scheduled.
News outlets such as WGAL, an NBC affiliate, said Lancaster police responded to two businesses that also reported receiving bomb threats via email.
Law enforcement across the country believes the threats are not credible but will continue investigating.
