Fire officials announced on Thursday afternoon that the ongoing search for two missing firefighters will be called off at sundown.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue officials said the search no longer makes sense "mathematically" and that they are no longer able to pinpoint their location.

Officials also said that canceling the search does not mean they are not looking for the firefighters.

Justin Walker, a master technician for the Fairfax County Fire Department, and Jacksonville firefighter Brian McCluney went missing after a fishing trip in Jacksonville. They went boating near Port Canaveral on August 16.

Their 24-foot center console boat was last seen heading toward the "8A" reef, according to the Coast Guard.
