Police in a North Carolina town have accused a man of holding a woman hostage at knifepoint and assaulting her.

The Times-News of Burlington reports Gibsonville police said the suspect and the victim lived together. According to investigators, 22-year-old Benjamin Piccolo held a knife to the victim's throat while assaulting her, injuring her head and neck. Police said Piccolo took the woman's phone to keep her from calling for help and held her in the house.

The victim was able to get to the bathroom and climb out of a window. She ran to a neighbor and called for help.

Authorities filed multiple charges against 22-year-old Benjamin Piccolo, including assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Piccolo is jailed without bond. It's not known if he has an attorney.
