The Fairview community is one step closer to getting a new neighborhood.

The Buncombe County Planning Board unanimously approved plans for Cascade Ridge, a project that calls for 35 mid-range single-family homes. The subdivision will be off Charlotte Highway across from Emma's Grove Road.

The developer said construction could begin by late fall.

But some longtime Fairview residents are not thrilled about the development.

"Well, I kind of hate to see it, because we’re out here in the county where, you know, it’s kind of quiet and traffic is not as bad," Bruce Utter said. "You know, Ashville is so bad with traffic now you kind of hate to see something like that going in."

The developer said Cascade Ridge still needs stormwater management approval. He expects to get it by mid-September.
